It is demonstrated that Grauss-Laguerre beams with screw wavefront dislocat
ions and extraordinary polarization can exist in a uniaxial dichroic crysta
l (i.e., a crystal with an angular dependence of linear absorption or gain)
. The expressions describing the dependence of the beam width and the wavef
ront curvature on the longitudinal coordinate are derived and analyzed. (C)
