H. Meier et al., Bound-free electron-positron pair production in relativistic heavy-ion collisions - art. no. 032713, PHYS REV A, 6303(3), 2001, pp. 2713
We study the bound-free electron-positron pair production in relativistic h
eavy-ion collisions to different bound states in a full plane-wave Born app
roximation calculation. Exact Dirac wave functions are used for both the bo
und electron and the free positron in the final states. Results for the rel
ativistic heavy-ion collider as well as the forthcoming large hadron collid
er are given. This process is one of the dominant beam loss processes and c
an become critical for the operation with heavy ions. A simple parametrizat
ion is given as well. We compare our results with calculations of other gro
ups.
