Abstract
Thermal degradation of poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene oxide) and its blend s with 1-4% fullerene C-60 or C-70 was Studied by mass-spectrometric therma l analysis and DSC. It was shown that the addition of fullerene shifts the onset of the processes of thermal degradation and the homolytic decompositi on of the polymer with the formation of gaseous products to higher temperat ures, thereby increasing its thermal stability. The inhibiting effect of fu llerene C-70 is stronger compared to C-60.
