A series of pitch-based carbon fibers brominated for 2-120 h was studied by
X-ray diffraction. The structural characteristics of the fibers under stud
y were estimated as dependent on the time of their bromination. The whole b
ody of data obtained was treated from the viewpoint of three processes taki
ng place during bromination: the formation of intercalating compounds and c
hemical bonds and the degradation of the fiber structure.
