Acoustic monitoring of a plastic operation for reshaping the porcine ear us
ing radiation from a Ho:YAG laser was performed to control a change in the
elasticity of the ear cartilage. Variations in the cartilage elasticity wer
e controlled by changes in the amplitude and shape of an acoustic wave duri
ng the laser action. It is shown that the optoacoustic signal amplitude exp
onentially decreases at least by a factor of 2 - 2.5 at the moment of the c
artilage reshaping caused by the action of radiation pulses from a Ho : YAG
laser.
