The testament of Manfredo La Muta, a Sicilian converso burnt at the stake i
n 1512, furnishes important data on the family size and financial circumsta
nces of a middle class family of former Jews. Among other things, it reveal
s the fate of La Muta's Jewish relatives exiled in Kingdom of Naples. The t
estament's structure and contents provide information regarding attitudes a
nd customs prevalent in Sicily in the early modern period. The article is f
ollowed by a transcription of the testament from an unpublished manuscript
found in the State Archive of Palermo.
