The thermodynamics and kinetics of H+/Li+ ion exchange in acid zirconium ph
osphate were studied. The equilibrium constants of three exchange stages we
re determined, and the cation diffusion coefficients in the mono-, sesqui-,
and disubstituted phases were calculated. The diffusion coefficient depend
s on the hydrogen ion concentration and the nature of anions in solution. T
he formation of nonequilibrium phases slows down ion exchange at the first
and second stages. The first-stage rate curve has two minima.
