Abstract
An experimental study of phase equilibria in the MgO-MgCl2-B2O3-H2O system made by liquid sampling at 350 degreesC under vapor pressure shows that the reaction of MgO with boric acid for 0.16 < MgO:B2O3 < 2.0 in an MgCl2 solu tion produces a solid phase of variable composition and amorphous to X-rays . At 200 or 280 degreesC for MgO:B2O3 = 1, ascharite 2MgO .B2O3. xH(2)O cry stallizes from the same system.
