Renal artery embolization procedures are used in a variety of clinical sett
ings ranging from treatment of primary neoplasms to ablation procedures for
end-stage renovascular hypertension, and to treatment of posttraumatic ble
eding or urinomas, The techniques used in the various clinical settings var
y as well, including, but not limited to, the types of catheters and emboli
c agents used. The purpose of this article is to review the clinical indica
tions for renal embolization procedures and to provide guidelines regarding
the techniques used in treating many of these disease processes.
