Abstract
o-Xylene, phenol and toluene were nitrated with 100% nitric acid on MoO3/Si O2, WO3/SiO2, TiO2/SiO2, and TiO2-WO3/SiO2 systems. Phenol and toluene were nitrated with yields higher than 90%, and the 10% and 15% MoO3/SiO2 cataly sts were most active in the nitration of o-xylene. The most active catalyst s exhibited the para-position selectivity of nitration.
