Abstract
Piperdardine, (E,E)-1-[7-(1,3-benzodioxol-5-yl)-1-oxo-2,4-heptadienyl] -pip eridine, isolated from the stem of Piper tuberculatum, was synthesized in 2 1% overall yield by an efficient pathway, in which safrole, an abundant Bra zilian essential oil from Ocotea pretiosa, was used as starting material.
