Nj. Wu et al., A COMPARISON STUDY OF (100) AND (110) BA0.5SR0.5TIO3 EPITAXIAL THIN-FILMS GROWN ON SUPERCONDUCTING YBA2CU3O7 THIN-FILM SUBSTRATES, Physica. C, Superconductivity, 232(1-2), 1994, pp. 151-157
Ba0.5Sr0.5TiO3 (BST) thin films have been fabricated by pulsed laser d
eposition with the objective of integrating oriented epitaxial ferroel
ectric films on high-T(c) superconducting YBa2Cu3O7-x (YBCO) thin film
s. Perovskite-type BST (100) films grown at 550-degrees-C-620-degrees-
C on c oriented YBCO thin-film substrates exhibited good crystallinity
. Highly aligned BST (110) films were grown on YBCO (110) substrates o
ver a much narrower temperature range of 565-degrees to 585-degrees-C.
The morphology of BST (110) thin films is smoother than of BST (100)
films. The BST (100) and BST (110) thin films both showed ferroelectri
c behavior below 250 K, with a maximum remnant polarization of 1.4 muC
/cm2 for BST (100) on c oriented YBCO, and 0.8 muC/cm2 for BST (110) o
n YBCO (110). The temperature-dependent differences in dielectric prop
erties between BST (100) on c oriented YBCO and BST (110) on YBCO (110
) thin-film systems were investigated.
