Vg. Vasilchenko et al., NEW LIQUID SCINTILLATORS FOR DETECTORS BASED ON CAPILLARY FIBERS, Instruments and experimental techniques, 40(2), 1997, pp. 175-185
Luminescent and optical characteristics of liquid scintillators intend
ed for use in tracking detectors and calorimeters are presented. Eight
bases and about 60 new scintillation dyes were investigated. The scin
tillation efficiency of the 1MN- and IPN-based liquid scintillators do
ped with R6, R15, R39, and 3M-15 is by 34-52% higher than that of a st
andard polystyrene scintillator. In the 0.5-mm-diameter quartz capilla
ries, an attenuation length of 319 cm has been obtained for IPN + 3 g/
l 3M-15. The characteristic light decay times of the liquid scintillat
ors are 6.2-7.6 ns. The scintillation efficiency of liquid scintillato
rs based on 1MN and IPN is by 22-32% higher in vacuum than in air. Cap
illaries filled with liquid scintillators are compared with plastic fi
bers.
