Mn. Lakhtakia et A. Lakhtakia, Anisotropic composite materials with intensity-dependent permittivity tensor: The Bruggeman approach, ELECTROMAGN, 21(2), 2001, pp. 129-137
The Bruggeman approach is implemented to homogenize a collection of identic
al, similarly oriented, electrically small, ellipsoidal particles with inte
nsity-dependent refractive index that are dispersed randomly and homogeneou
sly in an isotropic, linear, dielectric host material. The homogenized comp
osite medium is assumed to be cubically nonlinear and anisotropic, in the s
implest approximation. The anisotropy of nonlinearity may be considerably d
ifferent from the anisotropy of the linearity. The possible enhancement of
nonlinearity is also anisotropic, with the most desirable performance along
the shortest principal axis of the ellipsoidal particles.
