Abstract
A drummer (Family Kyphosidae) collected at Little Barrier Island, Haur aki Gulf (36 degrees 10' S, 175 degrees 06' E), is a new record for Ne w Zealand. The herbivorous Kyphosus vaigiensis (Quoy & Gaimard, 1825) is widespread in the tropical Indo-Pacific, and is the third species o f its genus to be recorded from New Zealand waters.
