Abstract
This paper gives an overview of sensors currently applied, or in the future applicable in glass melting processes. These sensors are used for control reasons, some sensors check from time to time the performance of the proces s or other sensors can be applied as warning devices for operators. The nee d for new types of sensors for the control of industrial glass melting proc esses will be discussed and some sensors to be developed in future will be proposed. Sensors for measuring the composition or the physical state of th e combustion gases and the glass melts are gaining importance. Most of such sensors are based on: electrochemical measurements, spectral or optical me asurements, mechanical measurements or vision systems.
