Abstract
This paper contains the results of research work realized at Gaswarme-Insti tut (GWI). Essen. Germany, in order to minimize the NO, production rates an d at the same time to Increase the heat transfer characteristics. During th e first part of the project a test facility was assembled including an air preheater and a testing furnace in order to realize investigations under re al glass melting furnace conditions in combination with the possibility of applying optical measurement techniques. The investigations have shown that it is possible to lower NOx-emissions strongly even for air preheating tem peratures of up to 1300 degreesC by adjusting the flames to the application s boundary conditions.
