We find the optimal window for overlapped block motion compensation (OBMC)
by statistically modeling the motion field, the field of block motion estim
ates and their relationship. This enables us to show how the optimal OBMC w
indow is affected by random field parameters, such as the variance of the m
otion held and the correlation coefficients of both the intensity field and
the motion held, The OBMC window obtained in this fashion is shown to have
good performance in reducing prediction error. Furthermore, this parametri
c solution provides insight into motion uncertainty and the overlapped moti
on compensation process.
