Abstract
In this paper the taper effect is discussed in various shielded spin valve structures using the micro-magnetic modeling, It is found that long taper c an result in the instability of sensor performance. In addition, it is hard er to control the instability if sensors have more than three magnetic laye rs because the demagnetizing fields become more complicated at sensor edges with increasing magnetic layer number.
