CoCrPt-C nanogranular thin films, with high coercivity after annealing trea
tment, were prepared in this work. To achieve the expected lubricant-free d
isks, nano-wear tests and frictional measurements were carried out on these
unlubricated samples using a diamond-tipped scanning probe microscope and
a lateral force microscope respectively. We observed that the structure of
carbon in the films varied with the content of carbon and annealing treatme
nt. The friction and wear are influenced by the thickness of top-layer carb
on and interlayer carbon. Friction is reduced after annealing treatment and
wear resistance increases with a decrease of the Raman spectra intensity r
atio of D-band to G-band.
