S. Bentouati et al., Influence of design parameters on the starting torque of a single-phase PMbrushless DC motor, IEEE MAGNET, 36(5), 2000, pp. 3533-3536
The starting torque of a single-phase permanent magnet brushless de motor i
s investigated, for both radial and parallel magnetization. Finite element
analysis is used to assess the relative merits of alternative methods of in
troducing the required airgap asymmetry, viz. tapered airgap, stepped airga
p, asymmetric airgap, and slotted teeth. The predicted results are validate
d experimentally.
