Abstract
Linear induction and synchronous motors have been the favored approaches fo r achieving linear propulsion in the Maglev community. One alternative is P LIM, a less conventional Pulsed Linear Induction Motor, Among the advantage s realized through PLIM are elimination of low power factor power transfer, smaller end winding overhang, and simpler electronics, Examined in this do cument are various embodiments of this approach with discrete rectangular g uideway coils, and the tradeoffs to using full wave and half wave excitatio n pulses.
