Abstract
The electrical and optical properties of the trigonal phases SrCu2GeS4 and SrCu2SnS4 were studied by means of electrical conductivity and diffuse refl ectance spectra in the W-Vis range. The compounds exhibit a room temperatur e conductivity of 8.96><10(-4) S cm(-1) for SrCu2GeS4 and 5.01x10(-1) S cm( -1) for SrCu2SnS4. The optical bandgaps were assessed at 2.9 and 2.1 eV, re spectively. Electronic structure and bonding relationships were analyzed by means of extended Huckel tight-binding calculations. Based on the experime ntal results as well as the electronic structure calculations, both phases are classified as semiconductor materials. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. A ll rights reserved.
