Abstract
The succession of phase transformations in the La2Ti2O7-LaTaO4 system on he at treatment of the co-precipitated crystallized hydroxides has been studie d. We have studied the possibility of the formation of a number of heterobl ock polar slab phases La4p+2qTi4pTa2qO14p+8q (p=1, q=1, 2, 3, 5) having an ordered arrangement of alternating perovskite-type blocks of two and four B O6 octahedron slabs. The crystal structure has been determined and the spon taneous polarization has been estimated. (C) 2001 Published by Elsevier Sci ence B.V.
