Ma. Shaffer et al., Struggling for balance amid turbulence on international assignments: work-family conflict, support and commitment, J MANAG, 27(1), 2001, pp. 99-121
Using human capital theory, we develop hypotheses about the impact of perce
ived organizational support and two forms of work-family conflict on the ps
ychological withdrawal of expatriates. We also consider the exacerbating ef
fects of commitment to either domain. To test these hypotheses, we collecte
d multisource data from 324 expatriates in 46 countries. Results indicate t
hat perceived organizational support and the interplay between work and fam
ily domains have direct and unique influences on expatriates' intentions to
quit. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Inc. All rights reserved.
