Abstract
The aim of this work was to determine assembly stresses in taper-locking as semblies, to seek simple methods of calculating the important stresses and to test their validity. Four models were analysed: a coupling only, two mod els with hollow shafts and one on a solid shaft, surrounded by a hub. Hoop- radial maximum shear stresses were compared with thick-cylinder calculation s. There was good agreement except for the frictional effects due to circum ferential sliding of slit rings between continuous (unslit) rings.
