The problem of the motion of an orbital pendulum suspended on a tether is c
onsidered. The existence of relative equilibria is investigated, as well as
the sufficient conditions for their stability. Particular attention is pai
d to the study of coupling reactions, in particular, the question of whethe
r certain relative equilibria are not realizable because the tether does no
