Abstract
Laboratory testing of catalytic oxidation of evaporator clean condensate is described. The catalyst system (nickel catalyst, sodium hypochlorite, 10-m inute contact time provides virtually complete oxidation of the reduced sul phur species to non-odorous species, with a 10% reduction in COD. In the ab sence of catalyst, DMS and DMSD remain ain the effluent, and not reduction in COD is observed. This process is suitable for treating clean condensates , permitting their re-use within the pulp mill.
