Abstract
A TMP-newsprint mill undertook a broad study to examine ways to significant ly reduce the total mill effluent flow, and in this context, evaluated impl ementing end-of-pipe treatment systems consistent with a possible eventual goal of zero effluent discharge. This paper reports on pilot trials using h ollow fibre ultrafiltration technology, which were undertaken to examine th e technical and economic feasibility of recycling biologically-treated, ult rafiltered effluent to the mill's fresh water intake.
