Polychelates of Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) formed wi
th bis-(mercaptocetamido)-1,5-diaminonaphthaiene (BMADN) have been prepared
and characterized by elemental analysis, magnetic, spectral, and thermal p
roperties. Electrical conductivities of the chelates have been studied too.
The thermodynamic parameters and the order of reactions were calculated fr
om the TG data. Elemental analysis indicates a 1:1 (metal:ligand) stoichiom
etry. All the chelates were found to be insoluble in water and common organ
ic solvents. Polychelates of Mn(II), Co(II) and Ni(II) are six coordinated
octahedral, Cu(II) is planar, while the ones of Zn(II) and Cd(II) are four
coordinated tetrahedral.
