Abstract
For the first time a continuous wave RF pumped atomic xenon laser was operated in a two mode regime. Simultaneous generation on two orthogon ally polarized longitudinal modes was observed in the range from 0.5 t o 145 MHz close to the maximum possible range. An anisotropic element was used to control the inter-mode frequency difference and mode coupl ing.
