Abstract
Recent advances in molecular genetics provide the groundwork for the develo pment of genetic tests for the diagnosis and prevention of inherited diseas es. The basis for the testing and the types of tests offered are explained in this article. Veterinarians should be prepared to understand genetic tes ting and counseling because they are becoming important to the practice of veterinary medicine.
