A sensitive method for the determination of the insect growth regulator bup
rofezin (Bup) at nanomolar level by adsorptive stripping voltammetry (ASV)
at a hanging mercury drop electrode (HMDE) was described. The cyclic voltam
mograms demonstrate the adsorption of this compound at the mercury electrod
e. A systematic study of the various operational parameters that affect the
stripping response was carried out by differential pulse voltammetry. With
an accumulation potential of -0.8 V and a 60 s accumulation time, the limi
t of detection was 2.2 mug l(-1) (7.21 x 10(-9) mol l(-1)), and the relativ
e standard deviation (n = 5) was 3.4% at concentration level of 5.0 x 10(-7
) mol l(-1) Bup. The degree of interference from diverse ions and some othe
r pesticides on the differential pulse stripping signal for Bup was evaluat
ed. Finally, the method was applied for determination of Bup in spiked soil
, tap water, and treated wastewater. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rig
