Sarcoidosis, a multiorgan granulomatosis of unknown pathophysiology, is of
particular interest to the renal specialist. First, the disease may involve
the kidney, not only as a cause of granulomatous interstitial nephritis bu
t also owing to the fact that various types of glomerulopathies can be obse
rved in the course of the disease. Second, sarcoidosis is accompanied with
a particular disorder of calcium metabolism that was identified some six de
cades ago but whose pathophysiology was elucidated much more recently.
