Dk. Wilson, An alternative function for the wind and temperature gradients in unstablesurface layers - Research note, BOUND-LAY M, 99(1), 2001, pp. 151-158
The function phi(zeta) = (1 + gamma \z/L\(2/3))(-1/2), where z is the heigh
t, L the Obukhov length, and gamma a constant, is proposed for the nondimen
sional wind speed and temperature gradients (flux-profile relationships) in
an unstable surface layer. This function agrees quite well with both wind
speed and temperature data, has the theoretically correct behaviour in conv
ective conditions, and leads to simple results when integrated to produce t
he mean profiles.
