The primary right of children and adolescents of color in mental healt
h systems is access to culturally competent therapists and systems. In
the authors' experiences, this right is easier said than done. The au
thors present a series of clinical cases which illustrate components o
f culturally competent treatment, the discrepancies between the ideal
and current practices, barriers we have witnessed in treatment, and re
commendations to improve care for children and adolescents of color.
