Abstract
A model is described of a dodecameric complex consisting of the integr al membrane component subunit c of the H+-transporting F-0 domain of E scherichia coli F-ATPase. A high-resolution partial structure of monom eric subunit c resulting from H-1-NMR studies [1] was used for constru cting the model. The validity of the proposed arrangement of protomers in the dodecameric complex was tested by amino acid substitution anal ysis and chemical, biochemical and genetic data on submit c.
