Abstract
Applications such as data communications and image processing require exten sive processing power, but when the fastest DSP is not fast enough, the onl y alternatives have been to add multiple processors or to use custom gate a rrays. Now, designers can use FPGAs for this purpose. The flexibility, spee d, and time-to-market advantages of programmable logic could change the way high-performance systems are designed.
