Abstract
The ERS-Envisat Symposium 'Looking Down to Earth in the New Millennium' - o rganised by ESA and hosted by Chalmers University of Technology - took plac e in Gothenburg, Sweden, from 16 to 20 October 2000, This was the fourth ER S Symposium (after Cannes in 1992, Hamburg in 1993 and Florence in 1997) an d the first Envisat Symposium, and it was open to all interested parties, f rom scientists to operational commercial users and service providers. It pr ovided the 540 participants with an opportunity to familiarise themselves w ith the current status of ERS applications and the capabilities of the foll ow-on Envisat mission now being readied for launch in mid-2001, and to prov ide feedback from their own particular domains.
