High-spin states in neutron-rich Dy isotopes, populated inn deep-inelastic
processes produced by the interaction of 234 MeV Cl-37 ions with a Gd-160 t
arget, have been studied using the highly sensitive EUROBALL IV gamma-ray d
etector array. The previously known level schemes for Dy-159,Dy-160,Dy-151,
Dy-162 have been extended to significantly higher spin (less than or equal
to 30h) and the i(13/2) band crossing in Dy-159 has been observed for the f
irst time. The experimental results are discussed within the framework of c
ranked shell model and projected shell model calculations with particular r
eference to the observed delayed band crossing in Dy-162.
