Abstract
The following five species of microscopic tuft-forming/encrusting brown alg ae (Phaeophyta) are newly recorded for the Island of Sao Miguel (Azores): N emoderma tingitana Schousboe ex Bornet, Pseudolithoderma roscoffense Loisea ux (Lithodermataceae), Hecatonema terminalis (Kutzing) Kylin (Punctariaceae ), Compsonema saxicolum (Kuckuck) Kuckuck, and Microspongium gelatinosum Re inke (Scytosiphonaceae). The species are described, and information is pres ented on their ecology and distribution around the island.
