Apparent molal volumes, apparent molal adiabatic compressibilities and visc
osities of phenol, sodium salicylate and sodium benzoate in water have been
determined at 288.15, 298.15, 308.15 and 318.15 K from density, speed of s
ound and efflux time measurements. These data have been utilized to determi
ne partial molal volumes ((V) over bar (o)(2)) and partial molal adiabatic
compressibilities (K(S,2)degrees) at infinite dilution which have been fitt
ed to suitable polynomials to estimate first and second derivatives with re
spect to temperature. Viscosity B-coefficients for the various compounds ha
ve been estimated using Jones-Dole equation. The activation energy for visc
ous flow has also been estimated. These parameters have been discussed in t
erms of solute-solvent and solute-solute interactions.
