Abstract
An optically active intermediate 5b for the A-ring of 19-nor-1 alpha ,25-di hydroxyvitamin D-3 analogues has been synthesized in 9 steps, starting from readily available, inexpensive D(+)-xylose with good yield and cheap reage nts.
