A detailed analysis of vibrational spectra and assignment of frequencies of
3-chlorohexane liquid with the aid of normal coordinate calculations for i
ts three most probable conformations are reported in the present paper. Som
e necessary modifications have also been made over the previously assigned
modes such as CH2 bend modes, CH2 wagging, CHCl bend and CCCl bend modes, S
ince this completes the assignment of bands in 1-chloro-, 2-chloro- and 3-c
hloro-hexanes, an attempt has been made to examine the consistency of force
field in this series of compounds.
