An unusual complication of suprapubic catheterization with Cystofix: Catheter knotting within the bladder

Cystofix is commonly used to drain urine temporarily from the bladder. Comm on complications are hematuria, bladder wall edema and bladder spasm due to irritation by the catheter itself. A case is described where a Cystofix ca theter became curled and knotted inside the bladder, probably due to deep i ntroduction or increased detrussor contraction occurring with the irritatio n of the bladder wall.
