Abstract
It is shown that binary mixtures of inorganic salts in aqueous solutio ns can he analyzed quantitatively by near-infrared spectrometry (NIRS) . Each component influences the structure of water by miscellaneous ca tion/anion-OH interactions causing specific effects in the NIR spectra which can be evaluated in a quantitative way. The calibrations descri bed were performed using principle component regression (PCR) and opti mised with respect to the standard error of analysis (SEA). (C) 1997 E lsevier Science B.V.
