Abstract
In order to examine the relation between exports and inequality, this artic le first estimates per-capita income, exports, and other indicators of econ omic development in Mate Grosso, Brazil. Manuscript data are analyzed to me asure and interpret three kinds of inequality: of income, of total wealth, and of landholding. The results suggest that exports and foreign ownership contributed far less to inequality than is imagined in dependency theory.
