Abstract
This paper presents the synthesis and mesophase properties of several homol ogous series of structurally related compounds in which the aromatic ring a ttached to 4'-alkyloxybiphenyl-4-ol was systematically changed. The homolog ues with achiral and chiral terminal groups were studied. New compounds for ming both antiferroelectric and ferroelectric phases were obtained for pyri dyl and phenyl derivatives.
