L. Huang et al., Bright red electroluminescent devices using novel second-ligand-contained europium complexes as emitting layers, J MAT CHEM, 11(3), 2001, pp. 790-793
With two novel second ligands, 2-(2-pyridyl)benzimidazole (HPBM) and 1-ethy
l-2-(2-pyridyl)benzimidazole (EPBM), two europium complexes, Eu(DBM)(3)HPBM
and Eu(DBM)(3)EPBM (DBM = dibenzoylmethanato), were prepared and used as e
mitting materials in organic electroluminescent (EL) devices. The devices w
ith the structures ITO/TPD/Eu(DBM)(3)HPBM (or Eu(DBM)(3)EPBM)/Al and ITO/TP
D/Eu(DBM)(3)EPBM/AlQ/Al emit red light originating from the europium comple
xes. The EL luminance of Eu(DBM)(3)EPBM is much higher than that of Eu(DBM)
(3)HPBM. A maximum luminance of 180 cd m(-2) in the triple layered device o
f Eu(DBM)(3)EPBM was achieved at 18 V.
