The dielectric response of lithium niobate is quantitatively calculated for
different temperatures. Using the chemical bond method, both linear (refra
ctive index) and second order nonlinear optical properties are derived from
the corresponding crystallographic structure. Our results show that the di
electric response of lithium niobate at 1.064 mum increases remarkably with
increasing temperature. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved
